As part of our Magical Moments campaign Kyle talked to us about how the support from our mentoring service has made a difference in his life.

Kyle, 15 has been a part of Right There’s mentoring programme for the last two years and is going from strength to strength. Our mentoring programme supports young people with care experienced backgrounds across Glasgow, matching them up with an adult mentor who helps them to develop skills, build trusting relationships and most of all, have fun!

Our volunteer co-ordinators found the perfect match for Kyle in his mentor Jonathan, and they have been meeting every week since. Each Thursday the pair spend time going for walks, sharing a meal together and they’ve even tried out go-karting! Through consistently spending one on one time together Kyle has felt a change in his confidence and is now able to be more social and spend time with his friends. He’s also started an apprenticeship where he is learning new skills and working towards a career in construction.

When asked about what Right There’s mentoring means to him, Kyle told us “It’s nice to have someone there to talk to and be able to get out of the house to clear my head”. Without our mentoring programme, young people like Kyle might not have the opportunity to build their confidence and achieve goals that they never thought possible.

This Christmas Kyle shared with us “My magical moment has been getting to know my mentor and spending time doing things out of the house. He’s made me feel more confident about speaking up and pushing myself to try new things.””.

Over the next few months Jonathan wants to get planning some new activities to try out with Kyle. On their list is more outdoor activities like hiking and maybe even a trip to Edinburgh. With Kyle’s confidence at an all-time high, who knows what this mentor match can achieve in the next two years!
