New Outreach initiative to prevent homelessness for people in South Lanarkshire

Right There is launching a new Outreach service for South Lanarkshire, to help people keep their homes when they need support the most.

Right There’s Outreach team works with people who are at risk of homelessness, meeting them in their local area and helping them deal with problems early, before things get worse. The aim is simple: to help people stay in their homes and avoid reaching crisis point.

Support is built around each person. This can include helping them access the right services, make a plan for progress, and stay connected to support as things improve. It might also mean practical help to keep a tenancy going, support with health or addiction issues, or help to connect with work, education, and other services in the community.

The service focuses on times when people are most at risk, for example when they are returning to the community from prison, leaving hospital or rehab, or finding it hard to manage a tenancy.

Graeme Callander, Head of Homelessness Prevention at Right There, said:

“We see what happens when people fall through the cracks at vulnerable points in their lives. Leaving prison, leaving hospital, or trying to hold on to a tenancy can be overwhelming, and too often the support just isn’t joined up in the way people need it to be.

“This service is about stepping in earlier, walking alongside people and helping them stay on track before things reach crisis point.

We’ve been part of the South Lanarkshire community for 18 years, and funding this ourselves reflects our commitment to keep responding to the needs we’re seeing on the ground and to be there when it matters most.”

The service is designed to add to the support already available in South Lanarkshire, working alongside housing, health and justice partners.

The Outreach team currently operates Monday to Friday, with scope to expand as the service develops.
